Paper Tole is considered three dimensional decoupage. It is a process of using layered elements cut from multiple, identical prints of the same image.

When creating a Paper Tole picture the crafts person will cut out particular sections of identical prints and then use glue and cardboard, or drops of silicon to separate the pieces from one another in layers. By building up the layers they build a 3D representation of the original print and define the background middle groudn and foreground of the image.

The individual sections are often also shaped, curled or sculptured to give the picture an even more realistic 3D effect.
